For the second week in a row the Chicago Bears will be going into the weekend without one of the team's top wide receivers.

Following Friday's practice, the final one before the team heads to Indianapolis, the Bears ruled out wide receiver Keenan Allen for Sunday's game. Allen will also not travel with the rest of the team due to a personal reason, per head coach Matt Eberflus.

That means Sunday will mark the second missed game for Allen after being ruled out ahead of kickoff in Week 2. Allen missed each day of practice this week with a lingering heel injury that's continued to bother him.

Earlier this week, Eberflus noted that the team was trying to get Allen back on the field as soon as possible, but it all depends on his comfort level. It seems he's still not ready to fully go.

"His heel is getting better," Eberflus said on Friday. "He's working back with the trainers, speeds are getting better, cutting, moving, all that is better… He'll be ready when he's ready. We'll see where it goes next week."

With Allen out of the lineup last week, the Bears called upon wide receiver and returner Deandre Carter to fill in when the team used 3-WR sets on offense. Carter finished the game with three catches for 32 yards, and had a big pass interference call he was able to draw downfield to help set the team up for their lone touchdown.

As for some good news at the position, rookie Rome Odunze was a full participant during Friday's practice after being limited during the first two days of practice. Odunze is still working his way back from an MCL sprain suffered in Week 1 but was able to play 66 snaps last weekend and will have no injury designation for Week 3.

"Just the confirmation of his mental and physical toughness to be able to go out there and do what he did," Eberflus added about Odunze suiting up last week. "He's going to start making some big plays for us."

Along with Allen, the Bears listed three other players as out: defensive tackle Zacch Pickens, fullback Khari Blasingame, and running back Travis Homer.

Starting right guard Nate Davis was listed as questionable with a groin injury he re-aggravated on Wednesday, but Davis did practice as a full participant on Friday. Eberflus confirmed that Davis' next available backup would be Matt Pryor, since Ryan Bates is currently on the injured reserve. Pryor played 68 snaps at right guard during the preseason with only one total pressure allowed in pass protection and it sounds like he could be called upon to rotate in on Sunday.

"He's a large human being that's for sure," Eberflus said about Pryor. "He eats up some space in there but he's really improved. He's one of our most improved linemen. We really see improvement in him and what he's brought to the table in terms of his work ethic, his energy, and what he brings as a teammate. Super excited for him if he's working in there with Nate or whatever that might be getting closer to the game."

As for the state of the backfield, Eberflus said on Friday that Homer is expected to be placed on the injured reserve after having surgery on his injured finger. In his absence, expect to see the Bears finally use second-year running back Roschon Johnson on offense. Johnson was inactive due to injury in Week 1 and returned in Week 2, however he did not have a single snap on offense. With the team looking to get the run game going, expect to see different backs involved during Sunday's game.

"We want to have a little bit of mix and match in there, you know, just to create some different matchup issues for the defense," Eberflus said earlier in the week. "Roschon is one of those guys, Swift is one of those guys, and Herbert is one of those guys. And all those guys are capable of doing it. And we let them have a little bit of mixing there, just like you do with your receivers and tight ends."

Up-front the Bears got some good news with left guard Teven Jenkins. After missing Wednesday's practice, Jenkins was a full participant on Friday and will not have an injury designation. The same goes for rookie backup Kiran Amegadjie, who was limited on Wednesday but practiced in full the last two days.

"He's really close," Eberflus said about Amegadjie's availability in a live game setting. "He's been working his tail off, his fundamentals are getting better, we love his length and his energy and the passion that he plays with. He's been doing good."
