The football gods blessed the Cincinnati Bengals in 2020 when they drafted quarterback Joe Burrow with the top pick. After a devastating knee injury ended his rookie year prematurely, Burrow has morphed into one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, and he has made the Bengals a serious Super Bowl contender every season.
Before Burrow set the Bengals' record for playoff wins on Sunday, he talked about his future with the Bengals, and his answer will make the people in Cincinnati smile.
“My plan is to be here my whole career," Burrow said. "And hopefully Zac is here my whole career. And hopefully, a lot of our guys are around for my career as long as they can be. I have a lot of confidence in the front office doing their jobs in the offseason. We've drafted well, we've brought in great free agents, we've claimed guys off waivers they have really made an impact on our team. And so, I think we have one of the best front offices in the league, and Zac in my opinion is the best head coach in the league so that gives me a lot of confidence."
Burrow can begin negotiations on a new contract in the offseason, and there's little doubt if any that the ball will get rolling on that.
The Bengals' win on Sunday gave them back-to-back playoff victories for the first time in their history. Now, they head to face the Buffalo Bills in the second round, just weeks after the near tragedy that involved Damar Hamlin.
This will be a huge test for Burrow and the Bengals, but he isn't phased one bit.
"We're in a great spot," said Burrow. "We have great leaders in the locker room and Zac puts us in the right mindset to create positions to go and succeed. We have the utmost faith in each other to go make plays to win the game."
