The Green Bay Packers (6-8) are on a hot streak as of late. Both the offense and defense are playing up to standard as of late and are still very much in the NFC wild card race. This week, taking on a reeling Miami Dolphins (8-6) team at just the right time.
Perfect timing to take care of one of their own to preserve the present and future.
Ahead of their game on Sunday, the Packers locked down one of the game's best offensive linemen after signing OL Elgton Jenkins to a massive four-year contract extension.
Jenkins' contract is worth $68 million and could max out with $74 million. $24 million guaranteed at signing.
Since he was drafted in 2019 out of Mississippi State, Jenkins has proven to be one of the NFL's elite offensive linemen. Playing left tackle, as well as various spots on the offensive line.
His lone Pro Bowl to date came in 2020 after not allowing a single sack in almost 600 snaps. In 2022, Jenkins is coming off a torn ACL and appeared in 12 games so far. Allowing only three sacks on 778 snaps played.
There were a lot of questions surrounding the Packers offseason and Jenkins' future was one of the biggest ones. Many thought of him as a potential franchise tag candidate, but the Green Bay Packers decided to instead lock up one of their best young players.
The signing helps the Packers' cap room, which is only at $3.3 million for 2023. A franchise tag would have made creating space impossible.
Instead, signing Jenkins secures the Packers in multiple ways moving forward.
