The Dallas Cowboys (5-2) win over the Detroit Lions is coveted by a number of headlines.

Dak Prescott's return, Sam Williams's breakout performance, and the running game (both sides of the ball).

While the defense struggled to stop the run for the second week in a row, they were able to yet again do what they do best; pressure the QB and create turnovers.

One of those turnovers started the turning of the tide halfway through the fourth quarter from Cowboys CB Jourdan Lewis.

After the interception, Lewis was slowly helped to the sideline and taken to the training room. He wouldn't return from then on.

Afterwards, it was revealed the fear is the Lewis had suffered a Lisfranc fracture in his right foot. An injury that would require season-ending surgery.

Not only would it be confirmed, but the Cowboys opted not to wait any further, escalating the surgery needed.

A Lisfranc fracture is when there is a break or occurrence in between the big toe and pointer toe metatarsals, and are displaced. Surgery can keep someone sidelined for 6-8 weeks minimum after operation, with three to five months of rehab following. Putting Lewis's potential timetable to return around April.

Through seven games, Lewis was having an off and on season. He has been allowing over 70% completion when targeted, but is coming off two straight performances allowing under 20 yards receiving in coverage.

Even in a statistically down year, Lewis has proved to be valuable in the slot as both a corner and play-maker all over the field.

In the meantime, rookie DaRon Bland will now step in as the Dallas Cowboys starting slot corner.

What does this mean for Lewis? He's only under contract for one more season following 2022, with a $6.17 million cap hit.

If Bland continues to impress, it could leave the decision to potentially move on easier. A move the front office has done time and time again. A pre-June 1st cut would save them $5 million in cap space for 2023, but at the risk of losing a long-time starter

An unfortunate setback for the nickel corner who is having a great year for the Cowboys defense. Now, both sides will have to wait to see their future together.
