The New Orleans Saints and their new head coach Dennis Allen have been under fire this season. The seat is currently hot for a few different reasons, but one main reason is because of the way the team is losing.
People feel that Allen isn't running the offense the way it should be run. There are different opinions on the quarterback battle, and whether it should be Jameis Winston or Andy Dalton.
Of course, then there is the whole Taysom Hill discussion. The guy who literally plays every position known to man, and is the definition of a swiss army knife.
He hasn't been getting the snaps fans, and media, would like, and when he does, nothing but good things happen.
Against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 5, we finally saw Hill be used the way he should, and be used the amount he should be used. The combination of quality and quantity was perfect.
He finished that game with one touchdown pass on one throw for 22 yards, nine carries for 112 rushing yards, and three rushing touchdowns. He was a man on a mission.
Since then, there has only been one game where he was used even remotely the same or as much.
Last week against the Los Angeles Rams was that one game, where he actually had a higher snap count than he did in the Week game.
"There has obviously been a lot of conversation about the snap count last week, but I think that is just the way this particular game went, you know," Hill said.
"From a call sheet standpoint, that could have been any game this year."
But it wasn't. In my opinion, there have really only been two games in which he was used the way he is supposed to be, which is in RPO situations as the quarterback, quarterback draws, or simply running the ball.
The Saints want him to be used as a tight end, but it seems like that just doesn't work well.
Last week, was the highest percentage of offensive snaps he has had in a game this year at 42%.
New Orleans needs him used more in those same situations. If you have done it twice, and it has worked both times, why not do it more?
"That question is above my pay grade," Hill said when asked by Nick Underhill why every week can't be like last week.
I guess Hill knows just as much as we do when it comes to the question everyone is asking.
