When the Dallas Cowboys take the field for battle against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, one soldier won't be in uniform.
Rookie tight end Jake Ferguson, who has been in concussion protocol, was been ruled out on Friday.
Ferguson has been able to gain some valuable experience in his first NFL season. He's appeared in all 13 games with seven starts, amassing 378 snaps. Also, he's made his opportunities count with 16 receptions on his 19 targets.
Dallas is more than capable of handling the loss of Ferguson. Dalton Schultz is second on the Cowboys in receptions and receiving touchdowns, and came up with a crucial reception on the Cowboys' game winning-drive against the Texans last week. Undrafted rookie Peyton Hendershot has scored rushing and receiving touchdowns this season, and Sean McKeon is steadily trending up in his progression.
The key thing here is to get Ferguson healthy, and with the Cowboys' depth at tight end, there's no need to rush him back.
