The Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-3) have had a disappointing season thus far, but they have a chance to flex their muscle on the dismal Carolina Panthers (1-5) on Sunday.
They'll have to do so without some key players, however.
Wide receiver Julio Jones, defensive lineman Akiem Hicks, tight end Cameron Brate, and cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting were all ruled out on Friday. Each player is dealing with what is listed as a knee, foot, neck, and quad injury, respectively.
It's unclear as to whether or not Carlton Davis III, safety Mike Edwards, and guard Shaq Mason will play, but things look pretty promising for Mason and especially Edwards, whom was listed as a full participant all week long.
Davis was held out of practice on Thursday after a limited session, but got back on track with another limited session on Friday. Of the three questionables, he has the best chance of missing the game.
The Panthers are dealing with a ton of injuries on their own. The names/statuses to monitor heading into Sunday are those of center Pat Elfein and left tackle Taylor Moton. Elfein is listed as questionable, but didn't practice all week long. Moton was limited on Thursday, but did not practice on Friday.
Elfein isn't expected to play. An absent Moton would be a big blow for the Panthers in its own right. You never want to be down multiple starters on the offensive line.
That's obviously music to the Buccaneers defense's ears, however. It will be interesting to see how things play out once inactives are announced before kickoff.
