The Pittsburgh Steelers got some much-needed good news on Tuesday ahead of a big Christmas Eve showdown with the Las Vegas Raiders.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Tuesday afternoon that rookie QB Kenny Pickett has cleared concussion protocol and is expected to play against the Raiders on Saturday.
Pickett missed the Steelers' win against the Carolina Panthers this past weekend. Mitch Trubisky started in place of Pickett against Carolina. Trubisky was able to lead Pittsburgh to a win, but he wasn't particularly impressive, passing for just 179 yards and no touchdowns.
The Steelers need to win out this season to keep Mike Tomlin's streak of non-losing seasons as a head coach alive.
Las Vegas, however, is chasing the same goal. The Raiders, at 6-8, also need to win out to avoid a losing season. Las Vegas head coach Josh McDaniels badly wants to prove he's the right guy for the Raiders, so he'll have plenty of motivation to get a win on Christmas Eve.
It should be quite a showdown on Saturday night. And Steelers fans should certainly be excited that Pickett will be back for the matchup.
