The Pittsburgh Steelers left Charlotte on Sunday with a 24-16 win over the Carolina Panthers.

Pittsburgh moved to 6-8 with the victory. If the Steelers win their final three games of the season, they'll finish with a non-losing record for the 19th straight season.

It would be quite a turnaround for a team that started the season with a 2-6 record.

Because of the improvements the Steelers have shown over the last several weeks, ESPN's Brooke Pryor suggested on Sunday that Matt Canada, Pittsburgh's much-maligned offensive coordinator, could return in 2023.

From ESPN:

A popular scapegoat for the Steelers' early offensive struggles, Canada has quietly overseen a solid improvement from his unit since the bye week. Against the Panthers, the Steelers' historic 21-play drive ate up nearly the entire third quarter and gave the Steelers a two-score lead. And after a quiet week against the Baltimore Ravens, the Steelers' run game put up 157 yards and the offense totaled 326 yards. Najee Harris finished with 86 yards on 24 carries and a touchdown. The biggest hole in the game plan remains George Pickens' inconsistent involvement, but overall, the offense has found a rhythm after a slow start — and perhaps that could keep Canada as the Steelers' OC for a third season.

This isn't a decision the Steelers should even remotely consider.

Sure, Pittsburgh has been a better team in recent weeks.

But the Steelers still aren't a great offensive team. Pittsburgh is averaging just 17.9 points per game this season.

During the Steelers' current 4-2 stretch, they're averaging 21.8 points per game. Canada has been better as a playcaller during that stretch, but that's still nowhere close to being good enough.

I can't see any possible way that Steelers fans would welcome Canada back in 2022 — especially with his smug approach that has turned many fans off this season.

I can understand Mike Tomlin not wanting to fire Canada during the season — those types of moves usually don't make anything better. But he has to find a better option this offseason to run Pittsburgh's offense.

Buffalo Bills quarterbacks coach Joe Brady, who was with Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow at LSU in 2019, could be a good option — especially since Brady is an "RPO guy".

There will of course be other options as well — Brady is just one example of a potential candidate to replace Canada. Regardless of who those options are, one thing is certain — it can't be Canada. We might see a fan revolt in Pittsburgh if he returns in 2023.
