The Chicago Bears suffered a gut-wrenching 29-22 loss at the hands of the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, but QB Justin Fields has the fanbase feeling rather optimistic despite the final score.
Fields finished the day completing 15 of his 21 passes for 208 yards and one touchdown. He also handled eight carries for 47 yards on the ground, though it likely should have been much more if this 52-yard touchdown run wasn't nullified by a phantom block in the back.
Bears head coach Matt Eberflus was highly impressed with the performance of the 23-year-old signal caller.
“Justin Fields had one of his best day of his career,” said Eberflus after the game.
The stats don’t always tell the story, but in this case they’re pretty revealing. Fields looked composed in the pocket and accurate with his arm.
He would have had an opportunity to lead the Bears on a game-tying drive if it wasn’t for Ihmir Smith-Marsette getting stripped with just over one minute left in the fourth quarter.
No loss ever feels like a win, but, for the rebuilding Bears, Fields’ effort opens the door for optimism surrounding his future.
