Bears Fields

Those who watched Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields in 2021 always knew how special he could be. Even with all of the offensive struggles the Bears experienced during Matt Nagy's final year as head coach.

Fields' combination of size, speed, agility, and arm strength is second-to-none. There are guys that come very close to matching his skillset. But in terms of pure talent and how Fields plays the game, there is no one like him.

Fields provided more flashes early-on in 2022, but they were overshadowed by another struggling offense. And just like 2021, the struggles were really bad.

Case in point: The Bears didn't reach or top 20-points until Week 3 and only matched that feat once more in the first six weeks of the season.

But Fields continued to plug away and those who continued to pay close attention knew a breakout was coming, soon.

Sure enough, Fields has taken the NFL by storm over the last month and a lot of it is due to his dynamic ability as a runner.

He has, in fact, cemented himself as the best running quarterback in the NFL, passing Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, and others.

But it's not just this writer making that claim. The NFL world is catching on, too.

Ex-players like former Pro Bowler and All-Pro Maurice Jones-Drew, who now works for NFL Network, are giving Fields the praise and credit he deserves.

And it's a wonderful sight to see.

MJD recently crowned Fields as the most electric quarterback with the ball in his hands as he wrote the following:

"But in recent weeks, there's been another quarterback who's taken the league by storm with his legs, taking Jackson's crown as the most electric runner in the NFL: Chicago's Justin Fields.

Don't get me wrong, Jackson is still 1B to Fields' 1A, but right now, the Bears' second-year passer is outdoing even Jackson in the ground game, running over opponents with ease on a weekly basis…

… When I watch Fields, I see a guy who is running the ball like Lamar was in his first full season as the Ravens' starter (2019). He had to do everything for that offense, and he did it at an MVP level. Fields is being asked to do just as much but on a less talented team. Nonetheless, Fields has made the Bears watchable again with his playmaking ability, and he's become the NFL's most electric rusher."

MJD is 100% correct and honestly, no one is taking the crown from Fields as long as he's healthy.

It's because Fields can do it all as a runner. Put it this way: Allen is great, but he's mostly a bully who will run you over and occasionally jump over you. Jackson is great, but he's mostly a finesse runner who will juke you out of your shoes. Mahomes is just a wildcard – you never know what crazy move, spin, duck-and-dodge, or whatever else he'll try to pull off as he scrambles.

But Fields, he does it all. He can run through you, he can run past you (just ask Jeff Okudah), he can juke you out of your shoes, and he can jump over you or make whatever move needed to get past you.

Fields is one of the few players in the league that makes you literally hold your breath when he starts to take off. He can turn a negative play into a huge positive within the blink of an eye and people are quickly realizing this.

“That quarterback now is, it’s everything we talked about and it just, man you can play perfect and play the game you want to play and if you let him out four plays, it will kill you," Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell said in Week 10. "It could be four touchdowns.”

“So once you get in the flow of the game and you realize, look, this is real now, this real speed,” Campbell later added. “Look that guy’s going to get out on some. He’s too good.”
