Football is back on Thursday as the Kansas City Chiefs take on the Houston Texans. That means that the Dallas Cowboys and fantasy football are back as well.
The Dallas Cowboys are widely expected to be extremely explosive on the offensive side of the ball during the first season of the Mike McCarthy era. Dak Prescott is back after finishing as the second best fantasy quarterback in 2019, while Ezekiel Elliott is considered one of the elite players in all of fantasy football.
Both Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup eclipsed 1,000 yards receiving while both finishing as top-22 wideouts (Cooper was 10th, Gallup was 22nd) in standard PPR leagues last season. Many expect Gallup to take another jump as he enters his third season in the league.
Could these two Cowboys make a fantasy impact?
Two players that offer a lot of intrigue regarding the Cowboys are tight end Blake Jarwin and rookie receiver CeeDee Lamb. Jarwin has flashed in his career while developing a rapport with Prescott. Jarwin has built some expectations for himself to have a strong 2020 campaign with Jason Witten out of town.
Lamb, meanwhile, was considered an elite wide receiver prospect in the 2020 draft after starring for the Oklahoma Sooners on the college level. Lamb is seen to be an NFL-ready receiver with special after-the-catch skills and the ability to play on the outside and in the slot.
The thing that makes it so difficult to project Jarwin's, Lamb's, Cooper's, and Gallup's fantasy value is that there are so many mouths for Prescott to feed. On one hand, that is an awesome problem in games that actually matter; however, that could hurt some of the Cowboys' weapons from week-to-week from a fantasy value standpoint.
Dak and Zeke are the top dogs in fantasy.
Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott are both being selected among the first at their position in fantasy football leagues entering the 2020 season. That should not be a big surprise, as both were productive a season ago and should turn in strong seasons in year-one of the McCarthy era.
ESPN's Matthew Berry went as far to say that Prescott will finish as the top-ranked quarterback in all of fantasy in his 10 bold predictions.
1. Dak Prescott finishes as the No. 1 QB in fantasy.
My thinking: The second-best QB last year in total points and the QB with the most rushing touchdowns since he came into the NFL, he's playing for a new deal in a fantasy-friendly offense, and he has three big-play wide receivers in Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup and CeeDee Lamb.
Berry also went on to predict that Michael Gallup will outscore Amari Cooper in fantasy this year. The ESPN analyst said that "now in his third year in the NFL, Gallup takes another huge step forward."
It is worth noting that Gallup's average draft position (87.6 overall according to ESPN) is around 55 spots lower than Cooper's ADP (32.6 overall). Talk about value.
Then there is Zeke. The workhorse back finished as the fourth-best running back in fantasy last season, and he is projected by ESPN to rank as the third best in 2019 – only behind Christian McCaffrey and Saquon Barkley. The Ohio State product appears to be a safe and solid pick yet again.
Good luck to you in your league(s), and let's hope the Dallas Cowboys are productive in both reality and fantasy this season.
