The Dallas Cowboys will enter CenturyLink Field in Seattle as 5-point underdogs to face the Seattle Seahawks for a Week 3 showdown. It's going to be a fun matchup as Russell Wilson and Dak Prescott try to lead their offenses to win what should be a high-scoring game.
The Seahawks are favorites for good reason. Wilson is the MVP front-runner after two weeks of action thanks to the fact that Pete Carroll seems to be eliminating his old-fashioned ways. The Seahawks haven't tried to "establish the run" early in games and instead are dominating through their passing offense.
Wilson has thrown 11 incompletions against nine passing touchdowns. His early 2020 numbers have already made history in the NFL.
But as intimidating as the Seahawks' offense sounds, their defense is struggling. They are worst in the NFL when it comes to allowing 10+ yard plays. Through two weeks, their defense ranks 21st in defensive DVOA and have one of the worst pass defenses in the NFL.
The Dallas Cowboys are in a similar situation. They have one of the most intimidating offenses in the NFL with a strong group of wide receivers and Dak Prescott at quarterback. Despite a slow start, the Cowboys offense met expectations versus the Atlanta Falcons after a rocky first quarter.
Although they turned the ball over four times in the first five possessions, they were near perfect afterward. Prescott passed for 450 yards while scoring four total touchdowns (three rushing TDs). Amari Cooper and CeeDee Lamb went over the 100-yard mark while Tight End Dalton Schultz had nine receptions for 88 yards and one touchdown.
Do you remember that Seahawks 10+ yard play stat I mentioned earlier? The Cowboys lead the NFL with 41 such plays after two weeks. They should be able to put big plays together against this defense.
If the Cowboys are going to win this ballgame, the coaching staff needs to go all-in on Dak Prescott and the passing game. Head Coach Mike McCarthy spoke earlier this week on the team's road to victory.
But McCarthy's words need to turn into action. The Cowboys haven't bet on the passing game in early downs as much as they should be despite being very successful in those.
Final Prediction
With two powerful offenses battling it out in a shootout, the Dallas Cowboys have a legit chance of winning the game. While home-field advantage still exists in a weird 2020 season, the Seahawks will not enjoy the full benefits of the 12th man.
However, in such a close game, I'm leaning toward the Seahawks. The Cowboys are missing a lot of key starters on offense and defense. Even though Chidobe Awuzie is far from great, he'll be missed in this game as Jourdan Lewis and Daryl Worley will likely support rookie Trevon Diggs in the defensive backfield.
I hope I'm wrong.
Cowboys 35 – 38 Seahawks
