It's time for Cowboys DB Reggie Robinson to get some playing time

The Dallas Cowboys beat the Cincinnati Bengals 30-7 with a depleted defensive backfield. The Cowboys showed up missing Trevon Diggs, Chidobe Awuzie, and Anthony Brown at cornerback. This forced them to dig deep into their reserves and even call up CB Chris Westry from their practice squad. Yet Reggie Robinson didn't enter the game on defense at all.
The Cowboys starting lineup at cornerback featured Jourdan Lewis, Saivion Smith, and Rashard Robinson. At different points of the game, Smith and Robinson were shaken up even though they didn't exit the game. By the way, Smith actually broke his hand according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
None of this mattered for Defensive Back Reggie Robinson, whose playing time – or lack thereof – remains a mystery for most of Cowboys Nation. Drafted in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft, Robinson had high hopes of earning a role on Mike Nolan's defense. However, last Sunday marked just the second time he's been on the active roster.
Through the first 12 weeks of the season, Robinson was a healthy scratch for the Cowboys. Usually, this wouldn't be very weird for a fourth-round draft pick but for a defense that's missing three of their top four cornerbacks, it's tough to understand why.
I mean, take a look at the guys who are getting playing time at CB. Chris Westry was called up from the practice squad and he got nine snaps on defense on Sunday. Saivion Smith was also promoted from the practice squad on September 26th. Not to mention, Rashard Robinson was signed to the practice squad on September 15th and promoted to the roster on December 7th.
All of these players are getting playing time but not Reggie. Why?
Of course at one point during the offseason, the Dallas Cowboys moved Reggie Robinson to safety. However, Robinson played cornerback at Tulsa and was drafted as such. And even with his position change, it's not like the Cowboys are healthy at safety. Donovan Wilson missed the game versus Cincinnati as the team continues to shake things up at the position opposite of Xavier Woods.
The Dallas Cowboys are 4-9, have one foot out the door of the season, and are unwilling to let Reggie Robinson show what he's got? Maybe he's been bad on practice, but I don't buy that he's been bad enough to have zero snaps through 14 weeks. If anything, it feels like coaching malpractice at this point, as Kevin Turner pointed out on Twitter.
The Cowboys need a miracle to get into the Playoffs and honestly, the defensive backs they're playing week in and week out aren't good enough to keep them from finding out what they have in Reggie Robinson. Let the man play. Hopefully, the 23-year-old cornerback-turned-safety gets his chance at either position before the season ends.
