The New Orleans Saints lost, again, in another embarrassing fashion. They just simply couldn't get anything to go their way.
The offense wasn't working, as they literally score zero points. The defense couldn't get stops at times, and there were a few others things that you probably already know about.
However, coach Dennis Allen thought there was some good in the loss.
"Well, look, what I was pleased with is that we gave ourselves a lot of opportunities," Allen said on Monday.
And they definitely did. Five red zone opportunities, and zero scores. Not even a field goal.
"I felt like, in the second half I felt like we actually moved the ball pretty effectively offensively. We didn't capitalize on some opportunities that we had. I felt like defensively we tackled well. I thought overall we played pretty good red zone defense.
"I thought we did some good things on special teams, in terms of a couple of inside-the-20 punts. I thought we had a couple of return opportunities. We created some field position, but again we just weren't able to capitalize."
The defense wasn't good, but sure, the red zone defense was. The special teams were okay, but then if he thought they were good, why didn't they come away with any points in the red zone?
It's not like the game was a blowout. The 49ers only scored 13 points. The game was insanely winnable.
This team seems to trend back in the right direction every week, then lose that the next week. But hey, there was some good, so everything is okay, right?
