Pittsburgh Steelers rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett made a comment after losing to the Philadelphia Eagles that should be concerning to fans.

After an embarrassing 35-13 loss to the Eagles, Pickett told reporters that he doesn't think the team is spending enough time "studying".

"We need to study more," said Pickett. "I don't think we study enough as a group. There's way too many penalties…It's all mental, there's really no excuse for that. We have to figure that out and get it right."

If you're a Steelers fan, you should love this show of leadership from Pickett.

But it should also be concerning. Not because Pickett is saying it, but because he's having to say it.

It certainly feels like Pickett's comments are indicative of a bigger issue in Pittsburgh. And if that's the case, fans shouldn't have much hope that this season will turn around.

This is clearly a team that's in disarray and lacks leadership.

There's supposed to be a standard when you put on a Steelers uniform. Pittsburgh has always been a franchise that prides itself on toughness, discipline, and focus.

For nearly every season of Mike Tomlin's tenure, those things have been present. And that's been a credit to Tomlin.

But now that those traits are absent, the blame has to be put on Tomlin. He's the head coach. It begins and ends with him. And while I ultimately believe these issues can be attributed to offensive coordinator Matt Canada, it still falls on Tomlin.

Tomlin needs to do some soul-searching. I know he's not a fan of firing coaches midway through the season, but there's zero benefit to keeping Canada any longer. In fact, it appears it's detrimental to the team at this point.

When you have a rookie quarterback calling out the team for not being prepared, it's obvious there's a culture problem.

Tomlin better fix it fast or he's going to start to hear folks calling for his job.
