The Philadelphia Eagles and the Dallas Cowboys have one of the oldest, and meanest rivalries in all of sports. Ask both teams how they feel about each other, and that right there will give you all the information you need to know. But, you already knew that.
Both of these teams are currently two of the best in the league, with the Eagles being 5-0, and the Cowboys being 4-1. If the Cowboys win this game, they are then in first place in the NFC East. If the Eagles win, they create a bit of distance between first and second place, which is why this game is so important.
These two teams hate each other so much that they wouldn't dare compliment the other on anything, let alone how well the other is playing. But, Eagles' head coach Nick Sirianni did, and in fact raved over how well one of the Cowboys' best players is playing.
"I thought, obviously, he was a really outstanding player," Sirianni said when asked about his thoughts on Micah Parsons before the draft. "I remember that bowl game he had against Memphis… and just thinking how much of a dynamic playmaker he is. To say that I remember the plan that we had if we were going to draft him, I don't remember, I think I was lobbying pretty hard for DeVonta [Smith], so I was thinking more about that.
"But yeah, I just remember how much of a playmaker he is, and how he was and being at Penn State. So, a lot of respect for him. He is doing a lot of the same things he was doing at Penn State, and he is doing it at a high level in the NFL."
While Eagles fans won't admit Parsons is one of the best defenders in the league right now, I will, because he is playing his tail off. I think Sirianni knows that too.
And while Eagles fans may not agree, or like what Sirianni said because of how serious this rivalry is, he has to say this. If he doesn't talk about how good the guy I or how good the Cowboys are playing, then it would almost seem as if he wasn't doing his job. And, we all know he is doing his job, as proven by the 5-0 record.
Parsons is tearing the league up though, and many people are comparing him to another Eagles rival Lawrence Taylor, who is the greatest defensive player of all time.
If you are getting comparisons to him, you are doing something right.
The Eagles will need to know where he is at at all times of the game. He is disruptive, and if you don't believe that, just watch what he did to the defending champions the Los Angeles Rams last week.
