Cowboys Nation bound to have strong feelings about Broncos head coach list

The Dallas Cowboys will be a part of head coaching conversations around the NFL in the upcoming offseason. That's a guarantee.

Not necessarily because they'll be looking for a new head coach themselves but because -at least- their two coordinators will be involved in just about every team's own search. Not to mention, one of the hottest names in the market is seemingly inseparable from the Cowboys.

You almost can't talk about Sean Payton if the Cowboys don't come up within the next two sentences. I don't think it's even humanly possible.

This brings us to the recent firing of Nathaniel Hackett as the Denver Broncos head coach earlier this week. After averaging the least points per game through 16 weeks of the season, the Broncos decided to part ways with the coach that was supposed to make them Super Bowl contenders.

Now the Broncos are officially hiring. And who are two of the top two names they're expected to consider?

BetOnline put together a list of the favorite candidates for the job, including the odds of it happening. Here are the names that top the list. Cowboys Nation, brace yourselves. Strong feelings are guaranteed due to very familiar names.

  1. Sean Payton 4/1
  2. Dan Quinn 5/1

Let's start with Payton really quickly. Although Cowboys Nation has fallen in love with the idea of the former offensive coordinator of the franchise, it's still tough to envision a world in which the team moves on from Mike McCarthy.

The Cowboys just accomplished 10-win seasons in consecutive years for the first time since 1995-1996. They're going to the playoffs in back-to-back seasons, something that never occurred under Jason Garrett.

Is it really that simple to move on from McCarthy?

Personally, I think the Cowboys would only make a change at head coach if they lose in catastrophic fashion in the Wild Card round.

As for Dan Quinn, Cowboys Nation hopes Jerry Jones can get the defensive coordinator the moon for him to stay onboard. But Quinn has done a fantastic job with the Cowboys defense and that won't go unnoticed. Strong offers could be headed his way and you know the Broncos will be calling after he was one of their top candidates for the job last offseason.

Also making an appearance (although at #8) in the Broncos' odds for their next HC is Kellen Moore. Although the young offensive coordinator isn't perfect, his offense has consistently been one of the best in the NFL when Dak Prescott is operating it.

He will get looks around the NFL and maybe even offers.

The good comes with some bad. The Cowboys hadn't been successful in consecutive years in a long time. But in a copycat league, that comes with other teams in the league trying to pick your coaching staff apart every offseason.

We'll see how this one plays out for the Cowboys but right now, I'm guessing the staff won't remain intact at coordinators while I'd be willing to bet Mike McCarthy stays at the wheel in 2023.
