A Dallas Cowboys offseason is never quiet. This year has been anything but the exception to that rule.
From the likely impending release of Amari Cooper to what the team will decide to do with DeMarcus Lawrence and so-on, there is no shortage of news. It is difficult to see any of it slowing down soon, with the new league year slated to begin later this month.
In the latest bit of Cowboys news, it is being reported that the team is taking trade calls for Pro Bowl offensive lineman La'el Collins. There appears to be some real interest from around the league.
Collins, 28, has been an important piece of the Dallas Cowboys' offensive line for much of his NFL career. The LSU product has played significant snaps at guard and, more recently, tackle with the Cowboys.
Dallas inked Collins to a five-year extension back in 2019. While Collins has played mostly well when on the field since, availability has been a concern. He missed the 2020 season due to a hip injury, and he was suspended five games last season.
Backup right tackle Terence Steele stepped up and played well in Collins' absence last season. In fact, Steele's play caused the Cowboys to hesitate putting Collins back into the starting five along the offensive line.
With Steele being younger and cheaper — and not having availability concerns — it does not come to a shock that the Cowboys are exploring the idea of trading Collins.
WHAT THE COWBOYS COULD GET IN RETURN

Offensive tackle is one of the most important positions in all of football. Therefore, it is reasonable to expect for the Dallas Cowboys to find a good deal to move on from their starting right tackle.
The Cowboys have not been shy about wanting to build through the draft. The cheaper and younger the player, the better. That is especially true for a team that is up against the salary cap this offseason.
Getting multiple draft picks in exchange for Collins would be big for the Cowboys, especially if one of those selections is a second-rounder. More draft capital would allow Dallas to either be aggressive and make a move up for a desired player, or simply plug away needs on the roster.
Collins is playing on an affordable contract, another element that will likely make him an attractive target for teams. The Broncos, Bengals, Ravens, and Jets are a handful of franchise that could be interested in making this kind of move.
Ultimately, this says a lot about the level of trust that the Dallas Cowboys have in Terence Steele. And perhaps that they don't have in Collins. Receiving multiple draft picks in return is key for the Cowboys.
