Dallas Cowboys: Dak Prescott "rehabbing aggressively" despite rumors

The Dallas Cowboys have until March 9th to franchise tag Dak Prescott. That's not the goal, of course. The goal is to reach a long-term agreement that keeps the Cowboys' potential franchise quarterback around for a long time. As we continue to wait to know what will happen, Mike Bacsik from 105.3 The Fan managed to cause a bit of a panic among Cowboys' fans.
"I think there's a possibility they release Dak Prescott in June," Bacsik said on Shan & RJ. "They won't know until June or July if he can play football or not." Bacsik is the only one talking about this right now, so it's wise to not believe it to be completely true. Although given Bacsik was the first to say Dak had a second surgery, it's fair to at least raise an eyebrow.
According to SI's Cowboys Maven's, however, is reporting that there "is not a setback" with Dak Prescott's ankle:
"We're told Prescott is walking without crutches, "rehabbing aggressively'' (per one source), and involved in weight-bearing exercises with plans to be ready for the 2021 NFL season."
Dak's brother Tad agrees with the report, as he's taken to social media to discuss it as well. All of this, by the way, falls in line with what fans have been able to see on social media. Dak hasn't been in a boot for a while and there's little reason to believe otherwise.
I don't believe Mike Bacsik's comments on 105.3 The Fan to be ill-intended, for what it's worth. As some have pointed out on Cowboys Twitter, he's a die-hard fan at heart. And he was right about Prescott's second surgery a few weeks ago. Yet I don't believe Cowboys' fans should be concerned about Prescott's ankle being a career-threatening concern.
It probably won't have a big impact on negotiations either. Jerry Jones himself has said Dak Prescott has all the leverage there is to have right now. That's what should really concern Cowboys Nation right now.
If the Dallas Cowboys tag Dak Prescott again, getting a long-term deal done will be even more difficult. It'll give the young quarterback a clear path toward free agency in 2022, something pretty unusual for quarterbacks of his caliber.
Whatever happens though, it sounds like Dak Prescott's rehab isn't as much of a concern as we were led to believe by 105.3 The Fan a few days ago. While we await more news about Prescott's future, I leave you with a heartfelt Valentine's Day poem composed by myself.
