Dallas Mavericks Journal: the win streak continues with KP

Ok, here me out. The team started the year slow, dropping to 0-2 to start the season. Since that point, Dallas is 6-2 with wins over Houston, Denver, and Miami. And currently, the team is riding a four-game win streak with an average margin of victory of 11.25.
Kristaps Porzingis returned against the Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday, and though he is still getting acclimated to the new season, it's good news that he's back on the hardwood. He gave Dallas 16 points on 6-16 shooting, and for a first game back I can't complain. He and Luka Doncic's chemistry on the floor was clearly visible. And when he plays, he raises the ceiling for a Mavs team that seems to have found its groove.
An unsung hero of the recent win streak in Tim Hardaway Jr. He is averaging 23 points per game on 54 percent field goal shooting from the field. From three, he's blazing the nets, shooting 53 percent on 10.3 attempts per game. Against the Hornets last night, Hardaway Jr. added 18 points on efficient splits shooting the ball (7/16). His resurgence as an offensive option has given life to the Mavs. It has also helped Luka Doncic find more space to operate on the floor.
Luka's resurgence:
The main reason the Mavs keep winning is that Luka Doncic is playing like an MVP candidate again. In Dallas' last four wins Doncic is averaging 31 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists on 50 percent from the field and 37 percent from three.
Against Charlotte, Doncic totaled 34 points, 13 rebounds, and 9 assists in 35 minutes of play. He controlled every aspect of the game. And most importantly, he controlled the pace at which the game was played. Doncic has a unique and rare trait that only NBA greats have in his ability to manipulate every other player on the floor. It's something LeBron James does, and it's encouraging to see Luka adding it to his game. He's never in a rush, and he is never hurried to make his decisions. The defense bends to his will. That is what makes him so unstoppable – he's never uncomfortable on the floor.
Just look at this possession:
He's never in a hurry, and when games slow down in the playoffs, that's an advantage for Dallas. His offensive pace was a huge reason the first-round series with the Clippers went longer than it should have gone. Doncic's uncanny skill to produce in the big-moment, at his pace, is what makes him the perfect superstar for Dallas. When he's in shape the sky is the limit for both he and the team.
Looking forward:
Next up is the Milwaukee Bucks. Luka vs. Giannis; Wonderboy vs. The Greek Freak; The prodigy vs. the project. Anytime these two superstars meet, it makes for great entertainment and an extremely competitive game. The last time Doncic played the Bucks he scored 36 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, and dished out 19 assists. He plays up to his competition. With Porzingis back in the fold, he also has more offensive help than ever before this season. The best aspect about this team is that though Dallas is riding a four-game win streak, things are just now heating up.
