Tennessee Vols offensive lineman Cade Mays said on Tuesday night during an appearance on "Tennessee Prime" that he's "50/50" on returning to UT for his final season of eligibility.
"I haven't made a decision, I'm in the middle, 50/50," said Mays. "I love this school. I love my teammates. I would love to come back and play another year with my brother, but I've got a great opportunity to go fulfill a dream to play at the next level."
There's one way that could almost guarantee that Mays comes back to Tennessee in 2022.
A rich NIL (name, image, and likeness) deal.
"With those two options, I definitely feel like there could be a NIL deal to supplement what I could make if I went to the NFL," explained Mays.
Swain Event host Jayson Swain asked Mays what kind of money he was talking about and Mays responded "where I'm projected, third or fourth round".
For reference, former Ole Miss offensive guard Royce Newman was selected near the end of the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft and signed a contract that pays him $784,836 this season ($660,000 base salary plus $124,836 bonus).
Mays said he's hoping to have his decision made before Tennessee's Music City Bowl matchup against Purdue on December 30.
