Dallas Cowboys get positive news on Dak Prescott, not so on Gallimore

As Dak Prescott aims to play versus the Houston Texans on Week 2 of the preseason, his MRI results suggest it could be possible. The Dallas Cowboys have been very cautious in the handling of Prescott's shoulder strain, and getting the quarterback a second MRI was no different.
After all, just last year they had to play a football season without Dak. The memories of a disappointing 6-10 season should still be fresh in the minds of the coaching staff and the front office. No one should say it's ideal for your quarterback to not be throwing the football in August, but playing it smart was the right call for a Cowboys team trying to go the distance this season.
At the very least, Dak Prescott's second MRI backs up the Cowboys' decisions. According to reports, the team confirmed its suspicions. Prescott's strain is healing well.
Next for the Dallas Cowboys will be how much to let him throw and when. The team is set to play its in-state rival next Saturday, the Houston Texans. For a while, the coaching staff and Prescott himself have talked about that game as the most likely for him to see some preseason action.
As overly cautious as they have been so far, don't be surprised if they decide to play it safe. But we already saw how much Dak Prescott dislikes being on the sidelines during the first episode of Hard Knocks. He'll surely try to get out there.
Cowboys need help at DT
Not every injury update is good news for the Cowboys, though. Neville Gallimore suffered a dislocated left elbow versus the Arizona Cardinals. According to Todd Archer from ESPN, Gallimore is expected to miss 6-8 weeks.
This is a huge blow for the Cowboys defense. They were already thin at the position, and without Gallimore, they're also lacking a starter at three technique. In his second year, Gallimore was expected to be one of the most improved players within the Cowboys organization.
It would be optimistic to expect third-round rookie Osa Odighizuwa to be a legit starter right away, and the Cowboys have other veteran options like Brent Urban. However, Dallas might lean toward seeking help via free agency or the trade market.
Usually, preseason games are considered meaningful only to evaluate players' individual performances. But if there's one way to truly lose a preseason game it is through injuries. OT Ty Nsekhe (knee) and Sean McKeon (ankle) also suffered injuries in Arizona last Friday.
The Dallas Cowboys have two preseason games left to go before the regular season and hopefully, the damage doesn't continue.
