No one will predict the Denver Broncos to beat the Dallas Cowboys on the road in Week 9. After all, the Cowboys are getting Dak Prescott back and are boasting an elite offense and a play-making defense after a morale-boosting win.
In the meantime, the Broncos are dealing with injuries at every level of their defense. Not to mention, Von Miller was traded to the L.A. Rams on Monday.
These two teams are in very different spots. But in sports betting the saying goes, "there's always a number." Oddsmakers have decided that number was 10.
The odds
- Spread: Dallas Cowboys -10 (-105)
- Moneyline: Denver Broncos +340 / Dallas Cowboys -450
- Total: 49 points
Public betting: 70% of bets on Cowboys
As of Saturday morning, 7 out of 10 bets were on the Cowboys, per Action Network. Far from surprising given it's a home game against a team that's lost four out of its last five. The line originally opened at 8.5 but moved to 10 once optimism regarding Dak Prescott starting took over.
The Cowboys are the only team undefeated against the spread through eight weeks this season. Not only that but they've covered by an average of 8.6 points, which ranks third in the league.
Trends
- Teddy Bridgewater – known as Teddy Covers in the betting world – is 23-5 ATS in away games in his career.
- Cowboys are 7-0 ATS this season! (10-1 in their last 11).
-
Over is 4-0 in Cowboys' last 4 games as a favorite.
The pick: Dallas Cowboys win big
To me, it comes down to two pretty simple statements.
- I can't trust the Denver Broncos.
- I can't doubt the Dallas Cowboys.
There's a reason why this Dallas team keeps winning and covering. 10 is a tough spread, but the Broncos defense is a shell of what we thought it'd be back in August. Von Miller and Bradley Chubb are gone. Vic Fangio is playing backup linebackers and a backup nickel cornerback. There's plenty of ways how the Cowboys can attack this Broncos team.
As for Dak? Despite him not playing last week, he should look healthy on the playing field on game day. Reports have indicated the Cowboys were being cautious and avoiding the risk of re-injury but that he could've played if needed. The extra week of rest should definitely help #4 look like he always does.
The bet: Dallas Cowboys -10 (-105)
Season bets: 5-2
