Dallas Cowboys to sign Safety Jayron Kearse to one-year deal

After meeting with three safeties on Wednesday, the Dallas Cowboys are signing their second safety in free agency. They are reportedly signing Jayron Kearse to a one-year deal, according to Michael Gehlken from the Dallas Morning News.
The Dallas Cowboys also met with Malik Hooker and Damontae Kazee, who could still be in the mix even after Kearse's signing. Unlike Hooker and Kazee, Jayron Kearse's potential upside isn't as promising.
Kearse has 12 career starts in his five-year career including seven with the Detroit Lions last year. He can provide the Cowboys with some value at special teams and maybe even some position flex to cover tight ends as John Owning suggested on Twitter.
At 26-years-old, Kearse will not be brought in to be the answer to the Dallas Cowboys' woes at safety. But he can prove to be a good hire down the road in specific situations for Dan Quinn's defense. Plus, his hiring gives the Cowboys much-needed depth at the defensive backfield.
However, the Dallas Cowboys aren't (and shouldn't) be done addressing the safety position. According to Gehlken, the front office has started negotiations with Damontae Kazee, and although there aren't any reports indicating so, it wouldn't be a surprise if they're also talking to Hooker.
