As the Senior Bowl comes to an end, one prospect the Dallas Cowboys could be interested in has seen his draft stock rise significantly. Cornerback Aaron Robinson is projected to be a Day 2 pick, with the main question being whether or not he's done enough to become a second-round selection.
Robinson, an Alabama transfer that played three seasons for Central Florida, isn't the perfect cornerback. But his physicality and quick feet make him an intriguing option for the Cowboys.
While The Athletic's Dane Brugler currently ranks him 94th in his Top 100 draft board, Robinson's strong performance in the Senior Bowl helped answer plenty of questions surrounding his play.
Aaron Robinson seemed to struggle in press coverage at times during his career at UCF. However, he was pretty consistent in the Senior Bowl as he created problems for just about every receiver he faced in practice, especially at the line of scrimmage.
In 2020, Jourdan Lewis appeared to be the Dallas Cowboys slot cornerback, having played 614 snaps in the slot, followed by Anthony Brown's 87 snaps. Although Lewis showed potential from time to time, he ranked 107th out of 121 qualifying cornerbacks according to Pro Football Focus.
Lewis is set to hit free agency in March and at this moment, it feels unlikely the Cowboys bring him back.
In the NFL, Aaron Robinson projects best as a slot cornerback, a sentiment Joe Marino from The Draft Network shares on his draft profile on the UCF cornerback:
"Has quick feet and excels when he has chances to drive forward on the football and showcase his click and close ability. Willing participant in the run game although his tackling results are inconsistent. Processes quick game rapidly and triggers. Experienced working from the slot where his game translates best to the next level."
The 2021 NFL Draft is less than three months away, and there are plenty of positions the Cowboys need to work on. Right now, the most important need appears to be the secondary. Whether or not the front office addresses that right out of the gate with a Top 10 pick, they might have to double down later in the Draft.
UCF's Aaron Robinson is a solid Day 2 option, especially if the Cowboys are lucky enough to find him on the board in the third round. But even with the 44th overall pick, he should be in the mix.
