NBA legend Kevin Garnett, a 15-time all-star, made an extremely bold prediction for Charlotte Hornets guard LaMelo Ball this week.
Garnett, who is in the Basketball Hall of Fame, said on his "KG Certified" show that he thinks Ball will be an NBA MVP one day.
“You know, who I love watching? The Hornets,” said Garnett.
“Man, I’ve followed LaMelo through the whole YouTube half-court and all the other stuff. He’s probably one of my favorites, him and Cole Anthony,” added Garnett.
“LaMelo has kind of an old-school, he moves the ball and has a high IQ. He’s got the old-school feel to him.”
"I can't wait for him to get some more size on him to where he's explosive," said Garnett. "That's going to take his confidence to another level. I got him being MVP in less than five years because he's dictating the league play, the style."
Ball is having a terrific sophomore season. The 20-year-old is averaging 19.5 points per game, 7.7 assists per game, and 7.2 rebounds per game this season. He also has four triple-doubles this season.
If Ball continues to progress at this same rate, it's certainly plausible that Garnett's prediction will be proved correct.
This certainly has to excite Hornets fans — as long as Ball stays in Charlotte beyond his rookie contract (which expires after the 2023-24 season).
But that's a conversation for down the road.
