The biggest storyline surrounding the Dallas Cowboys — and maybe even the entire NFL — is Dak Prescott. Whether it is Prescott's injury or contract situation, everybody is talking about the Cowboys quarterback.

Prescott was off to an amazing start to the 2020 season before going down with a gruesome ankle injury in week five versus the Giants. The Cowboys quarterback suffered a compound fracture and dislocation of his ankle in just the fifth game of the year.

Prior to that, Prescott was leading the league in passing by a healthy margin. He was the reason why the Cowboys were even competitive during the early stages of the season. It was easy to see how his injury impacted the rest of the team on and off the field.

There has been tons of speculation about Prescott's recovery. Many believe that the quarterback will return to his usual self, while others are a bit more skeptical. As with anything concerning the Cowboys, it is certainly a polarizing topic.

As we await to see whether or not Prescott and the Cowboys agree to a contract extension, reports have surfaced about his health status. Cowboys Maven's Mike Fisher broke the news on Sunday that sources are optimistic about where Prescott stands as we head into March.

Those in Prescott's camp have been confident in the quarterback's rehab process all along, even after reports surfaced about a second surgery in December. The second surgery was to clean things up.

Fisher reported that a Cowboys source is "optimistic" that Prescott will be ready to go in the near future. That is certainly great news.

A team source tells CowboysSI.com that Dallas is working to progress in negotiations while optimistic that Prescott will be fully healthy this spring, with no aftereffects of the injury and surgery.

Thanks to modern medicine and technology, combined with Prescott's relentless work ethic, it stands reason to believe that number four is on track to be fully healthy soon. It is a big positive that a team source is optimistic about the recovery.

Fisher went on in the report to say that the Cowboys are focused on reaching an agreement with Prescott on a new contract. Prescott is one of just three quarterbacks in NFL history to play a game on the franchise tag. He is currently headed to becoming the second ever to play two seasons on it.

If that happens, it is unlikely that Prescott is in Dallas much longer. However, it appears that the team is serious about securing the face of their franchise. The Cowboys denied interest in Russell Wilson, and their attention is on inking Prescott.

Prescott's leverage certainly goes way up if he is indeed on track to be 100 percent by April.
