It's that time of year once again. That time where NFL fans forget their rivalries and become one singular ball of hatred towards one central being. Every football-watcher across the world comes together to do one thing. That one thing? Hate on Madden ratings.

The loathing of the ratings is just an annual requirement at this point. Some player overalls were released early on Monday morning. Of course, fan outrage was released with them as well. In particular, there is some negative reception with the top Wide Receiver ratings.

Most folks don't have an issue with the top of the list. Adams, Hopkins, Hill, and Diggs undoubtedly were some of the top targets last year. They're all special talents.

There's been some pushback on Julio's placement at 5th. There's no doubt that that ranking makes sense when he is healthy, though. Some Titans fans expected A.J. Brown to be in the top 10 rather than Jones. They'll have to wait for roster updates throughout the season or next year's game to see that possibly come to fruition.

Surprisingly, the most discussion has been around Amari Cooper's rating.

Many Cowboys fans understand Amari's 92 overall and 8th slot in the top 10. He's arguably been one of the most overlooked receivers over the last couple of seasons. In 2020, without Dak Prescott for most of the season, Cooper put up 1,114 yards on 92 catches with 5 touchdowns. Impressive numbers with a mixture of backup QBs and a crowded WR core.

Nonetheless, Cooper is catching some unnecessary disrespect because he is ranked that highly. He has comparable production and an elite skillset just like some of the other options that sit behind him in the top 10 or did not quite make the cut.

It also doesn't hurt that Cooper's strengths play to Madden's ratings well. He is one of the best route runners in the league as well as a reliable downfield contested-catch option for the Cowboys. His blend of footwork and athleticism certainly help boost his attributes in the game.

Accordingly, people should stop nitpicking small differences in ratings in a video game. All of the receivers in Cooper's range are extremely talented, including him.

Madden will continue to release more ratings as the release date for the game nears. The game will become available on August 20th, so expect plenty more debates very soon.
