The Tennessee Titans still have plenty of work left to do in 2022. That being said, one national host deemed the Titans to be an ideal off-season suitor for the services of Tom Brady.
Now, Titans fans have heard all of this before. Whether it was the Peyton Manning sweepstakes in 2012 or the Brady rumors in 2020, this fanbase has been hurt before and it has the scars to prove it.
On Thursday, Colin Cowherd, host of FOX Sports’ The Herd, listed five teams that he thought would be an ideal landing spot for Brady if he chooses to leave Tampa Bay after the season.
Those teams are the San Francisco 49ers, Miami Dolphins, Las Vegas Raiders, Tennessee Titans and Seattle Seahawks.
When it comes to the Titans, Cowherd realizes the fit, but acknowledges Tennessee’s lack of weaponry.
“Vrabel and him are tight. He’s got a defense, great running back, winnable division – get a home field [playoff] game,” Cowherd said in his segment, If The Cleat Fits: Tom Brady Edition.
“It would not be [at the top] because they still have wide receiver issues. They had a rookie this year that is pretty good. They always feel, as an organization, two weapons shy of where they need to be. They’re a little bit like New England: Coach, defense, culture – lack weapons.”
The Titans must add weapons and improve its mediocre offensive line in order to become a desirable destination. However, starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill still stands in the way.
Per Spotrac, Tannehill will count $36.6 million against the team’s salary cap in 2023. If the Titans elect to part ways with him, the team stands to save roughly $18 million in cap space.
Moving on from Tannehill is something the Titans should only do if Vrabel believes that Brady, who turns 46 in August, is a clear-cut upgrade. After all, Tannehill boasts an impressive 36-18 record as a starter in Tennessee, but his success has been marred by recent postseason failures.
The final curveball in all of this is that the Titans still must complete the hiring process of a new general manager following the conclusion of the season. One thing is for sure, whoever lands that job will certainly have their work cut out for them.
