The Tennessee Titans are releasing wide receiver Julio Jones as a designated post-June 1 cut according to multiple reports (the news was first reported by ESPN's Dianna Russini).
Jones was traded from the Atlanta Falcons to the Titans last summer for a second-round pick and a fourth-round pick (Atlanta also received a sixth-round pick in the deal).
The former Alabama wide receiver only played in 10 games during his lone season in Nashville due to injuries. Jones totaled 31 receptions for 434 yards and one touchdown in his short Titans career.
Titans wide receiver AJ Brown reacted to the news of Jones' release after the news broke on Wednesday.
"You have taught me a lot in a short period of time," tweeted Brown. "I’m grateful to be apart of you[r] journey. You’re the reason why I started to begin to play this game. A HOF receiver is what you are and what I strive to be one day. Thank you, I’ll take it from here! Salute!"
I'm sure it was certainly a joy for Brown to play with Jones, a wide receiver he grew up idolizing. Jones' time with the Titans might not have been fruitful for the team, but it's a season that Brown will forever cherish.
On the business side of things, the Titans are saving $9.5 million this season by releasing Jones. He'll also carry an $8.4 million dead cap hit in 2023.
