Bengals QB Joe Burrow

Former NFL Pro-Bowl running back LeSean McCoy offered the most absurd take about Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow that I've heard this year.

(The worst Burrow take of all time still belongs to Colin Cowherd.)

McCoy appeared on NFL Total Access this week to discuss the upcoming season and…prepare yourself for this…he compared Burrow to Pittsburgh Steelers rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett.

I wish I was joking.

"I said it before on I Am Athlete (podcast), [it 's] Joe Burrow," said McCoy in response to who he'd compared Pickett to. "I'm serious…it's identical. The reason why is because first of all, they both were older quarterbacks. When I say older quarterbacks, coming into the draft, they stayed quite some time (in college). Joe kind of transferred a little bit from Ohio State and he came to LSU. His senior year he dominated. Same with Pickett. Pickett was a senior when he left. His last year he really dominated."

"They both have small hands. I know people love to compare the hands…they both have that confidence, that swagger."

This is a pretty poor argument from McCoy. Suggesting that Pickett will be the next Burrow because they played well as seniors and have smaller hands is a giant stretch.

Now, McCoy did acknowledge that Burrow has more of a Tom Brady vibe to him, but he also said he thinks Pickett is a lot more athletic than Burrow.

By the way, Pickett's "domination" in 2021 was nowhere close to Burrow's actual dominance in 2019 in Baton Rouge. Pickett was impressive last year, but he still passed for 1,300 fewer yards than Burrow in 2019. Pickett also threw 18 fewer touchdowns.

This is just McCoy, who also went to Pitt, giving Pickett some love nationally. I don't think there's any way he actually believes what he's saying.

At least for his sake, I hope he doesn't.
