The Cincinnati Bengals caught a tough break regarding one of their top rookies this week.

Cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt had core surgery on Monday and is now set to miss the rest of training camp, per Bengals HC Zac Taylor.

"(Taylor-Britt) had surgery on Monday. So, progressing. These are just the first initial days here," said Taylor. "He'll travel to the game with us, he'll be involved with the team."

Taylor-Britt has been having a solid camp and is one of the reasons why Bengals fans feel more confident about the depth at the position. Early in the offseason, the second-round pick appeared to be a legit candidate to take Eli Apple's starting role. Apple has put together a very good offseason but his track record leaves question marks heading into the 2022 season.

However, the former Nebraska Cornhusker needs the reps. Clearly, not being able to make it back for the rest of training camp will result in his development taking a hit.

As for a timeline for Taylor-Britt's return, Taylor shares no specific dates.

"He will be out for the rest of training camp," said the Bengals HC after being very clear about not wanting to put a timetable on it. "Once he had the surgery, it was a positive conversation."

The rookie's injury allows Tre Flowers to get the inside track to be CB4 on this defense. The veteran was held out from Friday's practice for precaution but should play on Sunday versus the New York Giants.

Among other injury updates, Taylor pointed out OT D'Ante Smith is expected to play Sunday. La'el Collins took part in 11-on-11 drills for the first time since coming back and is expected to be 100% for joint practices versus the Rams next week.
