The Tennessee Titans made what many viewed as a risky move by selecting defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons with the No. 19 overall selection in the 2019 NFL Draft.

Simmons fell in the draft mostly because of a torn ACL, but also because there's video of him punching a woman while he was in high school.

The Titans were fully prepared to address Simmons' potential character concerns on Thursday night after making the selection.

General manager Jon Robinson said the team did "extensive" research on Simmons, noting that they "do not bring bad people into the organization".

Head coach Mike Vrabel added that Simmons is a good person who made a bad mistake.

Florida Gators head coach Dan Mullen, who coached Simmons for two seasons at Mississippi State, continued the praise for the standout defensive lineman after the draft.

Via Titans Online:

“When I reflect on my career, I will always embrace the incredible memories and bond that I share with Jeffery Simmons,” said Mullen, now head coach of the Florida Gators. “He lived up to our expectations every day in every part of his life at Mississippi State. While he is certainly an extraordinary football player, his work ethic, determination and commitment to himself, family, teammates, University and community was unmatched.”

The Titans knew there were going to be lots of questions about their selection of Simmons in the first round. If they weren't 100 percent sold on his character, they would've passed on him.

I think that should tell you all you need to know about who the Titans believe Simmons is as a person.
