Former Titans WR throws major shade at Ryan Tannehill
Tennessee Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill is yet again in the middle of some controversy. And it's his own doing, though I don't necessarily think he's wrong. Tennessee Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill is yet again in the middle of some controversy.
And it's his own doing, though I don't necessarily think he's wrong.
Tannehill told reporters on Tuesday that he doesn't believe it's his job to serve as a mentor to quarterback Malik Willis, the No. 86 overall selection in the 2022 NFL Draft by the Titans.
Tannehill's job is to win football games for the Titans, not to make sure a third-round pick, who may or may not be the future starting quarterback for Tennessee, is mentored.
Now, I probably wouldn't have said those words if I were in Tannehill's shoes, simply because it's a quote that was inevitably going to go viral (and it quickly did). Then it becomes a big deal.
Former Titans wide receiver Nate Washington, who was never teammates with Tannehill in the NFL, took to Twitter on Tuesday to throw some major shade at the veteran quarterback.
"And y'all wonder why AJ said Mariota was the best LEADER he's ever been around," tweeted Washington.
Washington is referring to former Titans wide receiver AJ Brown's deleted tweet earlier this offseason (before he was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles) about quarterback Marcus Mariota being the best leader he's ever been around.
Washington wasn't the only former NFL player that had critical words for Tannehill on Tuesday.
Hall of Famer Charles Woodson also threw some shade at Tannehill.
Not every former NFL player, however, saw Tannehill's comment as a negative.
Former Indianapolis Colts safety Darius Butler defended Tannehill on Twitter.
There's never a dull moment when it comes to the NFL. Even in May, when things are supposed to be mostly quiet, there's some offseason drama brewing.
I don't think this is a big deal at all. But thanks to social media, it'll be a story all offseason.
