Tennessee Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill found himself in the midst of some controversy during draft weekend, but the drama may have been unwarranted.

Titans first-round draft pick Treylon Burks, a wide receiver out of Arkansas, told reporters on Friday afternoon that he had heard from several of his new teammates. Tannehill, however, wasn't one of the teammates that Burks said had reached out.

On Tuesday, Tannehill spoke to reporters at Tennessee's facilities and he addressed the "texting controversy".

Tannehill said he reached out to Burks on Thursday night (the night Burks was drafted) but never heard back. He said he ended up having a "good conversation" with Burks over the weekend. Tannehill also mentioned that he had spoken with quarterback Malik Willis, the No. 86 overall selection by the Titans.

So there you go — it was all a simple misunderstanding. Burks was probably inundated with phone calls and texts on draft night, so it's understandable that he could've overlooked a text/call from Tannehill. There's also the possibility that Tannehill received the wrong number for Burks.

Either way, the two have spoken and appear to be on the same page. And that's really all that should matter. Tannehill is going to be the Titans' starting quarterback in 2022, which means if Tennessee is going to reach its first Super Bowl in over two decades, they'll need the veteran quarterback to play the best football of his career.
