The Tennessee Titans have agreed to terms on a contract extension with veteran safety Amani Hooker, according to a report Friday morning from Ian Rapoport.

Hooker, a 24-year-old safety entering his fourth NFL season, has made significant improvement in each year of his career thus far. In 2021, Hooker took a big step forward when he became a full-time starter in the Titans secondary alongside Kevin Byard.

Byard has said throughout training camp that his "expectations are high" for Hooker this season. The Titans are counting on him to join Byard as one of the outspoken leaders in a young secondary that features very few guys with experience.

The value that Hooker brings to the group is reflected in his new contract.

Before the agreement, Hooker was entering the fourth and final year of his rookie contract, set to his free agency at the end of the season. After Friday's agreement, Hooker will under Titans control on an $11 million base salary through the 2025 season.

The Titans now have the core of their young and talented secondary locked up for the foreseeable future.

Hooker is under contract through 2025. So is rookie CB Roger McCreary and second-year CB Caleb Farley (if the Titans choose to exercise his fifth-year option). Byard's big deal will keep him around through the 2024 season, as well.

Kristian Fulton could be next up to get paid. His contract is currently only good through 2023, and the Titans have proven that they're willing to invest in homegrown talent, particularly on the defensive side of the ball.

The already high expectations for Hooker in 2022 will be even higher now, as he tries to live up to his contract and the Titans defense looks to take the next step behind their promising secondary.
