Before Tennessee Vols football coach Josh Heupel got into coaching, he was a star football player at Oklahoma.

Heupel was the runner-up in Heisman Trophy voting in 2000 and led the Sooners to a BCS Championship.

Tennessee baseball coach Tony Vitello was actually at the Big 12 Championship game in 2000 when the Sooners beat the Kansas State Wildcats in Kansas City.

(I'm assuming Vitello was there as a Kansas State fan since he's from St. Louis.)

On Wednesday, Vitello appeared on The Swain Event and he talked about telling his baseball team about Heupel's athletic abilities.

Vitello even called Heupel a "left-handed Patrick Mahomes".

Here's the clip:

I'm sure when you see Heupel the first thing that comes to mind is "that guy reminds me a lot of Patrick Mahomes".

Though in Vitello's defense, there are some great videos of Heupel making some incredible plays with the Sooners.

You know, maybe Vitello is right. Heupel was kind of like a left-handed Patrick Mahomes.
