Former Tennessee Vols quarterback Josh Dobbs received his first career NFL start (in a regular season game) on Thursday night.
Dobbs started for the Tennessee Titans in a 27-13 loss to the Dallas Cowboys.
While Dobbs wasn't able to get the win for the Titans, he still showed some good things in his first career start.
The former Vols standout passed for 232 yards, one touchdown, and an interception against Dallas.
It wasn't a perfect performance from Dobbs — though he was in a tough spot with a questionable offensive line and wide receivers that didn't give him much help — but it was better than what rookie Malik Willis delivered last week against the Houston Texans.
After the game, Titans head coach Mike Vrabel said he'd digest Dobbs' performance over the next few days before making a decision on who starts against the Jacksonville Jaguars next week.
The game against the Jags is massively important for the Titans as the winner of that game will win the AFC South.
And thanks to one of Dobbs' teammates, we might already know the plan for the Jacksonville game.
Titans safety Kevin Byard spoke to reporters after the game about Dobbs and suggested that the former UT quarterback will start again next week.
"Obviously he's only been here for like a week or two, but I definitely think as long as he continues to progress, I'm sure we'll see him next week, for sure," said Byard after the game.
It's hard to imagine the Titans going back to Willis in week 18 after the way Dobbs played against the Cowboys.
That means that Dobbs, in just his second career NFL start, will have a chance to win the division for the Titans.
The good news for Dobbs is that superstar running back Derrick Henry will be back next week, giving the Titans offense its top weapon ahead of a huge road game with the Jaguars.
