There's a ton of excitement around the current Tennessee Vols football team — and for good reason, they're 6-0 and coming off a big win against Alabama — but if you're a college football fan you know there's always an eye toward the future.

And the future for Tennessee is five-star quarterback commit Nico Iamaleava, one of the top-rated 2023 recruits in the nation.

Iamaleava is the total package when it comes to the quarterback position. He has ideal height, he's quick, accurate, has good arm strength, he's humble and he's an incredible leader/teammate.

What more could you want in a quarterback?

If you think the hype for Iamaleava is being blown out of proportion, then check out the latest in-person scouting report for Nico from 247Sports.

He understands when to take something off and throws with great touch and accuracy down the field. He’s also deadly when flushed from the pocket and can take off and run anytime or make a big throw down the field after eluding the pass rush. His fourth TD of the night came with him eluding pressure and because he ran the ball so effectively earlier in the game, multiple defenders converged on him, allowing him to find a wide-open receiver in the corner of the end zone.

He can routinely make 2-3 players miss in the open field and going back to an old player comp, looks a lot like Marcus Mariota (Oregon/Falcons) when he’s running with the football and is more apt to run over a defender than slide or go out of bounds.

The toughness and grit Iamaleava plays with is what sets him apart from other quarterbacks we’ve seen, not just this year but in recent memory. There’s a level of physicality in how he plays that’s just different and he’s a true warrior on the field.

There's been some concern that Nico's playing style won't translate to the SEC.

That's silly talk, of course. Not only will it translate, but Iamaleava should thrive in the SEC. He's a coveted five-star for a reason. And he's primed to take the SEC by storm when he arrives at Tennessee in early 2023.
