The Tennessee Vols are one of five teams that Rivals recruiting analyst Chad Simmons believes are in the mix to land 2021 four-star wide receiver Deion Colzie.
Simmons recently "ranked the contenders" for Colzie and he has the Vols as the fifth most likely team to get a commitment from the elite wide receiver, behind Georgia, Notre Dame, Auburn and Oregon.
Colzie, 6-foot-4/193 lbs from Athens, GA, is rated in 247Sports' composite rankings as the No. 4 player in the state of Georgia and the No. 5 wide receiver in the nation. He's also rated as the No. 44 overall 2021 recruit in the nation.
The Georgia native was previously committed to Notre Dame.
Here's what Simmons had to say about the Vols' chances to land Colzie:
Tennessee already has a couple of wide receivers committed and a versatile athlete in Roc Taylor on its commitment list, but the Volunteers have continued to recruit Colzie. The communication is there, and Colzie listed Tennessee as a program of interest in a recent interview, so this one could be worth watching moving forward.
While it seems like Georgia and Notre Dame are out in front for Colzie, it would be silly to dismiss Tennessee here.
Especially after their massive addition of five-star defensive end Dylan Brooks on Sunday (which will make UT a more attractive option for top recruits).
Speaking of Brooks, Rivals ranked the contenders for him earlier this month and they had LSU and Auburn out in front in his recruitment.
Just a few weeks later, Brooks committed to the Vols.
As long as Tennessee is on Colzie's mind, then Jeremy Pruitt and the Vols have a realistic chance to land the impressive wide receiver.
We've reached a point where Tennessee can't be counted out for any recruit.
The Vols have come a long way under Pruitt, but they still have a long way to go before they're in a position to compete with programs like Alabama and LSU.
But if they keep landing elite recruits, they'll be competing for SEC championships sooner rather than later.
