Tennessee Vols true freshman quarterback Tayven Jackson is ahead of schedule according to UT offensive coordinator Alex Golesh.

Golesh spoke with VolQuest this week about a variety of topics, including Tennessee's quarterback depth.

"We're really excited about the young guys that came in," said Golesh. "Tayven Jackson, particularly, man, he's further ahead than we thought he would be coming in. And he's made huge strides. I think he's got a really bright future."

"It's an exciting room, it's a really good room. I think they've (the quarterbacks) just continued to take steps to get better."

Jackson, a former four-star recruit who signed with the Vols this past December, is kind of the forgotten man in Knoxville right now.

Hendon Hooker is entrenched as Tennessee's starting quarterback and Joe Milton is currently operating as the top backup. That leaves Jackson as the No. 3 quarterback. On top of the players already on campus, there's also 2023 five-star quarterback Nico Iamaleava — the recruit that has fans on Rocky Top excited for the future.

Jackson, however, is the most likely option to be the Vols' starting quarterback in 2023 — not Iamaleava.

The Indiana native is an extremely talented player who is gaining valuable experience right now despite the fact that he likely won't see much action this upcoming season.

If I had to bet, I'd bet on Jackson being under center when Tennessee opens the 2023 season. It certainly sounds like he's been impressing his coaches during his first few months on campus.
