Former Tennessee Vols head football coach/athletic director Phillip Fulmer hasn't talked publicly very much about UT sports since stepping down from his athletic director position in early 2021.

On Tuesday, however, Fulmer joined 104.5 The Zone's "JMart and Ramon" to discuss various topics, including Vols head coach Josh Heupel.

"I love Josh," said Fulmer. "He and I have gotten to know each other pretty well. He's a down-to-earth, good guy…he can recruit. He can obviously coach. I look forward to the future being very bright."

"I was with Josh the other night at a function up in Sevierville, he's just a really good guy who wants to do well," added Fulmer. "I like that. He's not full of himself."

Fulmer also gave his thoughts on Vols athletic director Danny White, the man who replaced Fulmer at Tennessee.

"Danny White and I have met a couple of times — several times actually — and he's really great at his job," said Fulmer.

"I think Tennessee athletics is in a great place right now," added Fulmer.

It's obvious that Fulmer, despite essentially being pushed out at Tennessee twice (as the head football coach and athletic director), is still one of the biggest Vols fans on the planet. If he's bitter about how anything went down in early 2021, he isn't showing with his public comments about Heupel and White.

Tennessee fans should be happy that Fulmer is still a fixture around UT athletics. White is one of the best athletic directors in the country and the Vols are in a better place because he replaced Fulmer. But Fulmer is one of the most beloved figures in Vols history and it's nice to see him building a positive relationship with Heupel.
