The Tennessee Vols landed a commitment from 2023 five-star quarterback Nico Iamaleava last month, but that isn't precluding UT from pursuing the top quarterback in the 2024 recruiting class.

Jadyn Davis, a five-star quarterback from Charlotte, NC, is ranked in 247Sports' composite rankings as the No. 2 overall player in the 2024 recruiting class and the No. 1 quarterback.

Davis recently took a visit to Tennessee and appeared to enjoy himself.

Just because the Vols landed a stud quarterback in the 2023 recruiting cycle in Iamaleava doesn't mean Tennessee can skip on a quarterback in 2024.

Thanks to the NCAA transfer portal, programs essentially have to sign a quarterback every year.

So what are the chances that Tennessee will land Davis?

For now, the Vols aren't the frontrunners — though they're certainly hoping that changes.

Davis really likes Clemson and North Carolina, which makes those programs the current favorites to land the talented quarterback.

Here's what Rivals.com said about Davis' recruitment late last month:

It's still early for Davis but quarterback recruiting is a different animal. Clemson has the most going for it right now, but North Carolina is right in the mix, along with Ohio State. Those three schools should be considered the upper tier of his recruitment. Tennessee just made a splash by reeling in five-star Nico Iamaleava in the 2023 class, but that won't discourage Davis, who thinks he might visit the Knoxville campus while he's in the state for a 7-on-7 tournament in the near future.

There's still a ways to go in the battle for Davis. I wouldn't look for him to commit until after the 2022 season.

If the Vols have a strong season and quarterback Hendon Hooker ends up being a legitimate Heisman contender, we could see Tennessee quickly surge to the front of this recruiting battle.

After landing Nico, the Vols can't be ruled out when it comes to any high-profile quarterbacks.
