It feels like there's no end to the good news for the Tennessee Vols basketball team this month.
The Vols have been red hot on the recruiting trail, landing three highly-rated players this month. That includes 2023 four-star forward Cade Phillips, an Alabama legacy who committed to Tennessee on Thursday.
On Friday, the Vols received more good news when a report dropped from college basketball reporter Jeff Goodman that guard Santiago Vescovi is expected to withdraw from the NBA draft and return to Tennessee.
This report isn't a total surprise — the assumption was that Vescovi would return to Tennessee, especially after he wasn't invited to the NBA draft combine.
But it's still nice for the Vols to know that one of their best players will be returning to Rocky Top for the 2022-23 season.
Tennessee's 2021-22 season didn't end as expected. The Vols won their first SEC Tournament championship since 1979, but they failed to advance past the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
This Vols team will be loaded this upcoming season. If everyone stays healthy, the expectation will be at least at Sweet 16. Anything less would be a massive letdown.
Next season might be Rick Barnes' best chance to shed his reputation as a head coach who can't get it done in the tourney.
