Former Tennessee Vols head coach Butch Jones, currently the head coach at Arkansas State, told a wild story this week involving a recruiting trip and a high-speed police chase.
Earlier this week, during the Sun Belt coaches' weekly media session, Jones told reporters that he got caught in the middle of a high-speed chase while driving between recruiting stops.
"The next thing I know, I have a car that's trying to run me off the road and smashing me," said Jones. "I look up and I'm in the middle of a high-speed police pursuit, chase, however you want to deem it. And so about $15,000 worth of damage, tried running me off the road…they caught him down the road."
Here's a clip of Jones telling the full story.
And here are the details of the police chase, via 247Sports:
The car, which had expired tags, was being pursued by the Jacksonville Police Department, which eventually caught the suspect on Arkansas 440. The driver, and three occupants, were arrested and charged with weapons and drug chargers. According to the Jacksonville Police Department Facebook page, officers seized marijuana, digital scales, baggies, a 40 caliber handgun with a 30 round mag, a 9mm handgun with a 30 round mag.
That's certainly a wild story — especially for Jones who is the son of a retired police chief in Michigan.
