There have been some rumors floating around this week about Wake Forest quarterback Sam Hartman possibly landing with the Tennessee Vols.

Hartman has played at Wake Forest for the last five seasons, but he still has another year of eligibility left due to the COVID-19 impacted 2020 season.

The Charlotte, NC native (about an hour away from Hendon Hooker's hometown of Greensboro, NC) has passed for 7,649 yards, 74 touchdowns, and 25 interceptions over the last two seasons. He's also rushed for 211 yards and 12 touchdowns over the last two seasons.

That type of offensive production could certainly be attractive to Tennessee. However, it doesn't appear, for now, that the Vols are searching for a quarterback.

Hartman also hasn't entered the NCAA transfer portal yet, so there shouldn't be any conversations happening between him and Tennessee.

But with the rumors out there, I decided to check into things and see what I could find out.

I spoke with two sources at Wake Forest. One source thinks Hartman is destined to land with the Florida Gators. That source felt fairly confident, though these things can obviously change quickly.

The other source said that the belief is that Hartman's plan is to get some NFL draft feedback before making any decision. If Hartman doesn't like the feedback, then he'd likely enter the portal and look for a new home next season.

Neither source mentioned Tennessee and neither source has heard any talk about the Vols when it comes to Hartman.

Draft and portal decisions are fluid this time of year. So just because the Vols aren't a factor right now doesn't mean they can't become a factor later on if they decide to pursue a quarterback in the portal.

Hartman is planning to play in Wake Forest's bowl game against Missouri which I assume means any potential decisions won't come until after that game.

The transfer portal, which opened earlier this week, closes on January 18. There's also a signing period from May 1 to May 15.
