The 2019 LSU Tigers are one of the greatest college football teams of all time.

And the 2022 Tennessee Vols are starting to share some parallels with that LSU team.

The latest parallel is uncanny.

Tennessee has played seven games so far this season (including games against four ranked opponents) and they've scored 351 points.

In 2019, LSU also scored 351 points through their first seven games of the season (the Tigers played two ranked opponents in those first seven games).

Tennessee obviously has a long way to go before they're in the same discussion as 2019 LSU — the Vols are only halfway there and they have to continue to sustain this same level of offensive success.

But Tennessee, so far, is right in line with what LSU did in 2019.

One difference, however, between 2019 LSU and the 2022 Vols that's been mentioned is defense.

The Tigers' defense in 2019 wasn't elite, but it was good enough (they allowed 20 points per game).

Tennessee's pass defense has struggled this season. But their run defense has played at a high level. And as a result, the Vols are giving up just 23.1 points per game so far this season. So they're still in the same neighborhood defensively as LSU (and that LSU team had numerous future NFL players on the roster on the defensive side of the ball, too).

The fact that UT is statistically in line with one of the greatest college football teams of all time, without the same talent, is truly unbelievable.

There's not a better coach in the country this season than Josh Heupel.
