Former Tennessee Vols linebacker Quavaris Crouch is back in the transfer portal as of Friday morning.
Crouch is a former four-star recruit who signed with the Vols during the 2019 recruiting cycle.
The Charlotte, NC native transferred to Michigan State after two years on Rocky Top. Crouch transferred in the midst of the recruiting scandal that cost former UT head coach Jeremy Pruitt his job.
Crouch totaled 57 tackles as a sophomore at Tennessee in 2020 (in just 10 games). This past season at Michigan State, Crouch had 75 tackles and two sacks.
The former Vol was spotted in Knoxville last month with current Tennessee linebacker Jeremy Banks. It could've just been Crouch visiting some former teammates, but it feels noteworthy with the talented linebacker back in the portal.
The Vols could certainly use some depth at linebacker — especially with the news on Friday that sophomore linebacker Aaron Willis is entering the portal.
Crouch has already used his one free transfer, which means the only way he can play immediately in 2022 is if he receives a waiver (which might be possible at Tennessee, considering all the drama that went down with Pruitt). Crouch could also play immediately in 2022 if he's a graduate transfer, though it's unclear if he's earned his degree yet or not (he was an early enrollee at Tennessee, so it's possible).
I'd ultimately be surprised if Crouch ended up back in Knoxville, but this is a situation worth monitoring for Tennessee fans.
