The last thing the Tennessee Vols baseball team needs entering the NCAA regional this weekend in Knoxville is motivation.
But that's exactly what the Vols received, thanks to one of their potential opponents this weekend.
Tennessee is set to host Georgia Tech, Campbell, and Alabama State this weekend at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. The Vols will play Alabama State on Friday at 6:00 PM ET (SEC Network). If Tennessee wins and Campbell wins on Friday then the two programs will play on Saturday.
(Tennessee and Campbell could also play on Saturday if both teams lose on Friday. There are also scenarios where they could play on Sunday.)
And that's when things could get interesting.
That's because Campbell's official baseball Twitter account threw some shade at the Vols' shade of orange on Tuesday.
Tennessee's baseball team is already well-known for their brash, in-your-face playing style. Why in the world does Campbell think it's a good idea to ruffle the Vols' feathers?
Giving the best team in the nation some added motivation in the NCAA tournament doesn't seem wise. I'm sure Tennessee will have plenty to say — via their bats and their words — if the two programs end up playing this weekend.
